Earlier today VideoGamer launched a story with evidence to suggest that 2K’s XCOM first person shooter is still in the pipeline.
Matt Lees and the team at VG shot a video of various bits and bobs directly linked to game which, only recently, was rumoured to have been cancelled. Nestled in a box plastered with a “Burn After Reading” warning was an ashtray, map, lighter and other pieces that tie closely to what we saw during XCOM’s debut at E3 2011.
Having been in development since 2006 (under Bioshock’s Irrational Games) the title disappeared into the ether soon after its reveal, leading many to suspect that 2K had different plans for the franchise. Speculation was galvanised after the announcement and launch of XCOM: Enemy Unknown with 2K Marin’s shooter nowhere to be seen.
The amount of detail that has gone into the press kit is sufficient enough to assume that this is a legitimate sighting of the M.I.A video game. They even engraved “Erase the Truth” onto the lighter in Latin, for Pete’s sake.
